Earlier this week I had a decision to make. The forecast was rain – was it worth doing my stall? Last time I attended in the rain at least half the other stall holders hadn’t bothered to turn up We were the naïve, newer stall holders. Thus Sophie’s Cakes, The Cambridge Paella Company and Beth with Bibble Bobble clothing huddled together, hoping to at least make our pitch fee.
So this week when the forecast was rain we furiously texted each other, debating whether to go or not. We decided not to bother. We waited for the clouds to gather and the rain to pour down as the BBC had assured us it would. Eleven o’ clock arrived. There were a few puffy white clouds. The odd grey one far off. Meanwhile the BBC kept reassuring us that torrential rain was on its way.
I stared out the window, quite possibly the first time I’d ever hoped for rain. Twelve o’ clock came and went and still no patter of raindrops. One o’clock. I pictured my empty, lonely stall and got on with loading my online site on Etsy. One thirty – still only a few grey clouds. Then, hurray! At about quarter to two the rain began. Quite slow, but it was something. By four it was pouring.
Hurray! No soggy shoes, wet socks and saggy boxes.
